The following data presents the GSA General Fee record since 1971. Some historical documentation is missing. To consult the quarterly graduate fees and expenses, please visit registrar.sa.ucsb.edu.

 

  • 1971 — Graduate students voted in favor of a $1.00 per graduate student per quarter fee effective Spring 1971.

  • 1973 — Graduate students voted in favor of a $0.50 increase bringing the fee to $1.50 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 1977 — Graduate students voted in favor of a $4.00 increase to support the MTD bus service, bringing the fee $5.50 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 1979 — Graduate students voted to decrease the fee by $3.00 to make the fee $2.50 per graduate student per quarter. This was done by removal of the MTD fee of $3.00. Instead, the MTD was voted and approved to be a separate $4.20 fee.

  • 1981 — Graduate students voted to increase the fee by $1.00 to make the fee $3.50 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 1989 — Graduate students voted in favor of increasing the fee by $2.00 to make the fee $5.50 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 1995 — Graduate students voted to increase the fee by $2.50 to make the fee $8.00 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 1999 — Graduate students voted to increase the fee by $1.50 to make the fee $9.50 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 2008 — Graduate students voted in favor of increasing the fee by $3.06 (of which $0.76 is for Return to Aid) to make the fee $12.56 per graduate student per quarter. Additionally, a COLA was added in that election and scheduled for every three (3) years.

  • 2012 — COLA increased the fee to $12.98 per graduate student per quarter (of which $0.79 is for Return to Aid).

  • 2016 — COLA increased the fee to $13.72 per graduate student per quarter (of which $1.05 is for Return to Aid).

  • 2018 — Graduate students voted to increase the fee by $6.77 to make the fee $20.49 per graduate student per quarter including summer. No COLA added.

  • 2019 — COLA increased the fee to $18.60 per graduate student per quarter.

  • 2020 — Students voted against an increase in the fee.
