To mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within our community and assist our students, faculty, and staff in managing the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the University has taken several actions and adopted a range of practices and protocols that the Graduate Student Association (GSA) is following.

  • Effective immediately, all faculty and staff members, students, and visitors to campus must wear face masks in all shared indoor spaces. The GSA is no exception, and everyone using the lounge must wear a mask.
  • An alternate face covering may be used on campus in the following situations, after obtaining an approved accommodation from Human Resources or the UC Santa Barbara Disabled Students Program:
    • A medical or mental health condition or disability prevents wearing a face covering. This includes individuals with a medical need for whom wearing a face covering would obstruct breathing or who are unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance.
    • Individuals who are hearing impaired or are communicating with someone who is hearing impaired, in which the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication.
  • Vaccinated individuals are not required to maintain a specific physical distance, whether indoors or outdoors. For non-vaccinated individuals, Cal/OSHA recommends using face coverings outdoors when working within 6 feet of other people.
  • Any group or organization’s event must not surpass the 30 people limit permitted in the lounge space.
  • All organization coordinators are encouraged to have backup plans in case the current situation changes.
  • Anyone must not close any windows or doors without asking the staff member responsible first. The GSA wants to ensure the lounge has adequate ventilation.
  • Frequent hand washing and surface cleaning are recommended. You may wash your hands at the sink area or use the hand sanitizer available at every table. Consider doing it when you arrive at the lounge and/or leave the lounge.
  • The GSA lounge staff will disinfect every table. We ask that you let them know when you are leaving so they may do it. If a staff member is not available, you may use the disinfectants wipes at the sink area to sanitize the space your group was in contact with.
